Autel MaxiScan MS300 works well.
I used this on my 1999 VW Jetta with no issues. I was able to retrieve the error code that had caused my check engine light to go and I was able to clear the error code. If it comes back on again, at least I'll have some idea of what the general problem is before I take it to an autoshop. Definitely recommended.

This little product actually works very well. The price is excellent and it's easy to use. Way better than paying 80 bucks to to the same thing at shops.

Autel MaxiScan MS300 Good Buy.
Very light weight and easy to carry around. Although it doesn't provide the description on the screen like the more expensive ones most of all now have smart phones so the tool provides the code and then go on google and do your research.
